What is ProTect Security Staff Training?

ProTect is a social responsibility training program designed to:

  • Reduce the risk of liability
  • Improve observation and communication skills regarding patron and premises management
  • Prevent, defuse and manage customer disturbances
  • Increase the safety and security of staff and patrons in licensed premises

What topics are covered?

Participants will learn:

  • Principles for dealing with extreme situations
  • The importance of keeping your cool, and legal responsibilities and liabilities
  • Roles and responsibilities of security staff
  • Essential steps to controlling customer disturbances
  • Strategies to stay in control of a bad situation
  • Actions and behaviours to de-escalate disputes

Who needs to take this program?

ProTect certification is mandatory for full-time and part-time industry staff working in a Class A Minors Prohibited premises and at a Commercial Public Resale Special Event in the following positions:

  • All individuals who manage or supervise security staff
  • Security staff (directly employed or contracted by the licensee)
  • Owners and managers of a company contracted to provide security
  • Class B large-format bike operators and attendants must also be ProTect-certified

 

 

When do I have to be certified?

Persons requiring ProTect Security Staff Training certification must be certified within 30 days of their employment start date or before the expiration date on their certificate.  

What is the timeframe to complete the program? 

Learners are given 30 days from the date and time of registration. You may enter and exit the program, sign in and out of your account, etc. as often as you like within 30 days from the date and time of registration. Your program access ends on the 30th day. After 30 days, you will need to reregister and start the course from the beginning. 

Is there an exam and what is the passing grade?

Yes and a minimum score of 80% is required to pass. 

How many exam attempts are available?

Five (5) attempts are given with each registration. Reviewing the program topics before retaking the test is recommended.

Is there a cost for the program?

There is no charge.

English

Need proof of certification? No problem.

Licensee staff must provide proof of SMART Programs certification at the request of an AGLC Inspector. Proof of certification includes:

  • a printed certificate or
  • a clear digital image (e.g., screen shot) of the certificate saved on the staff member's mobile device.

Proof of certification can be accessed from of your AGLC training account. Print your certificate or save an image of it to your mobile device.
