Charitable Gaming Bulletin
This bulletin is to advise all licensed charities and charity workers of IMPORTANT AMENDMENTS to the Charitable Gaming Policies Handbook (CGPH). The following policies are effective April 1, 2025.
AGLC is committed to continually reviewing policies to increase flexibility and efficiency for stakeholders in running their operations, while maintaining an effective regulatory environment. As a result, policy amendments have been made to the CGPH as follows:
- Sections 1 through 3 –minor amendments were made to update terminology, provide clarity and correct minor spelling/grammar errors which had no impact to the overall intent of the affected policy.
- Sections 4 and 5 – have been restructured to provide charities with greater flexibility and much wider discretion in how their gaming proceeds are managed.
- The policies were consolidated into a single section and streamlined to reduce burdensome regulatory requirements and present content in a more efficient and effective format to better meet the needs of stakeholders.
- The restructured policies focus on the uses of proceeds around charitable group activities and programming rather than their eligibility classification, or organization type.
- See the attached Summary of Key Amendments with an overview of the updated handbook layout and also the Quick Reference Guide for additional information.
The amended CGPH may be accessed on AGLC.ca. Additional information regarding AGLC’s commitment to a modern regulatory environment that supports consumer choice, innovation and economic growth can be found on AGLC’s website at aglc.ca/modernization.
Please familiarize yourself with the amended policies, update your Charitable Gaming Policies Handbook as required, and ensure all affected staff are notified of the new requirements.
