Special Event Licence (SEL) Policies and Guidelines Review

Liquor Bulletin

November 27, 2024

This bulletin is to advise SEL licensees and applicants that a review of the Public SEL Policies and Guidelines and Private SEL Policies and Guidelines has been completed. As a result of this review, a number of changes have been approved. These changes include:

  • deleting the reference to Private Non-Sale Hospitality licences, as only liquor agencies and suppliers are eligible for these licences and this topic is address in the Liquor Agency Handbook;
  • clarifying that SEL applicants may purchase liquor from any licensed premises authorized to sell liquor products for off premises consumption;
  • deleting the multiple references to one-year licences, as the valid licence dates are on the licence;
  • including celebration-of-life events as an eligible event for a Private SEL;
  • defining the term "exhibitor" in the Public SEL Policies and Guidelines; and
  • adjusting the maximum tasting sizes to be consistent with the sizes listed in the various liquor policy handbooks.

The amended Public SEL Policies and Guidelines and Private SEL Policies and Guidelines may be accessed online.
