Update on Shooting at Apex Casino

A tragic incident occurred this weekend at the Apex Casino in St. Albert. Two RCMP officers were injured in the line of duty. Our thoughts are with the family and colleagues of the RCMP members who were injured in this horrible event. It is yet another reminder of the dangers facing those who are committed to protecting our communities.

This was a traumatic experience for the staff and owners of Apex, a proud, family-run business, and staff are receiving support from the RCMP Victims Services Unit.  The Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC) did not have staff working at the casino, however as a member of the St. Albert community and as close partners with the RCMP, we share in the community’s heartache over this tragedy.

It should be noted that there is no remaining threat as this incident was not related to gaming operations and was isolated. While a tragedy of this nature can occur anywhere, due to the severity of the incident, AGLC will conduct a thorough examination of our security policies and procedures as soon as we are able in order to learn if improvements can be made.

The Apex Casino has reopened and AGLC is continuing to provide support for the ongoing investigations.
