Play Alberta readies for opening face-off of 2022 NHL post-season

Calgary, Edmonton have some of the league’s best odds to win the Stanley Cup.

The NHL’s post-season drops the puck this week as 16 teams compete over the next several weeks to have their names engraved on the Stanley Cup. For the first time on the province’s regulated, sports betting website, legal-aged Albertans can place wagers on each game of every best-of-seven series.

Right now on Play Alberta, the Calgary Flames enter the post-season with the third best odds (+650, 13/2) to win the title. They’ll play the Dallas Stars in the opening round. Traveling north on Highway 2, the Edmonton Oilers have the seventh best odds (+1100, 11/1) in the league to win the Stanley Cup. Edmonton opens the playoffs against Los Angeles.

“Hockey fans in Alberta are gearing up for a potentially exciting spring, with both NHL franchises in the province being serious contenders to win the Stanley Cup. Play Alberta will give legal-aged sports bettors an additional entertainment option in a regulated and safe online environment while making sure money played in Alberta, stays in Alberta.”

Kandice Machado, Chief Executive Officer, AGLC

Alberta bettors are backing the top two teams in the Pacific division this spring. 25 per cent of all futures bets taken on Play Alberta are on Edmonton and 16 per cent are on Calgary. The President’s Trophy winners, Florida Panthers, have six per cent of bets and the Toronto Maple Leafs have three.

With each goal and pad stacking save, AGLC would like to remind legal-aged Albertans of the GameSense tools available on Play Alberta. Players have access to resources that promote healthy gambling habits, including loss, bet and daily session limits and the Self-Exclusion Program.

AGLC is mandated to ensure the province’s gaming industry is carefully managed to maximize the benefits to Albertans. In 2020-21, more than $773 million in net gaming income was generated for the General Revenue Fund, which supports programs and services that Albertans rely on every day.
