News Release

Play Alberta, Calgary Stampede sign multi-year partnership

Alberta’s only regulated gambling website, PlayAlberta.ca, has agreed to an exciting new partnership to be the exclusive iGaming and sports betting partner of the Calgary Stampede. The agreement will enable Play Alberta to provide bettors with new and unique markets during the 2024 Calgary Stampede, July 5-14.

“The partnership between PlayAlberta.ca and the Calgary Stampede will drive entertainment value up for legal-aged Albertans. Play Alberta can now present new and exciting sports betting markets at the Calgary Stampede Rodeo, such as barrel racing, chuck wagons and bareback riding, while at the same time present the Play Alberta brand throughout the Stampede – reminding players of the only safe-and-secure responsible gambling option currently available to them.”

Kandice Machado, Chief Executive Officer, AGLC

In conjunction with the Calgary Stampede, PlayAlberta.ca is the first online gambling platform to ever offer odds on the rodeo and chuckwagon events at The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. It will also see the Play Alberta brand visible in several high-profile spots, including the chuckwagon finish line and pit signs along the rodeo’s exterior wall.

“The Calgary Stampede Rodeo and Cowboys Rangeland Derby chuckwagon races are some of the Calgary Stampede’s most iconic events,” says Meghan Kivisto, Vice-President, Sales, Marketing and Programming at the Calgary Stampede. “We are thrilled to partner with Play Alberta to add to the excitement and energy of these events, offering an added experience for fans.”

With more than 313,000 registered player accounts on PlayAlberta.ca, the website generated $179 million in net sales for 2022-23. That number contributes to the $1.5 billion in total gambling revenue that’s sent to Alberta’s General Revenue Fund and supports programs and services that Albertans rely on every day.

Expanding options on the province’s only regulated gambling website encourages Albertans aged 18-plus to choose to place their bets on a safe and secure website. PlayAlberta.ca continues to integrate AGLC’s best-in-class responsible gambling programs, GameSense and Self-Exclusion, which promote healthy gambling habits and feature tools and resources such as bet, loss and daily session limits.
