Grande Prairie businesses continue raising the bar for a safer night out

Celebrating nine years of Best Bar None (BBN) Grande Prairie, eight local hospitality establishments gained accreditation for their continued efforts to demonstrate responsible liquor service and patron safety.

“Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis is extremely proud of the ongoing collaboration between industry and the Grande Prairie community to promote responsible liquor consumption. Congratulations to this year’s accredited businesses and award winners for their continued commitment to customer service and safety.”
Kandice Machado, CEO
AGLC

From this group, four businesses won awards in the following categories:
Bar: The Lion’s Den Pub
Campus Bar: Howlers Lounge – Northwestern Polytechnic
Casino: Great Northern Casino
Restaurant and Bar: Boston Pizza Lounge – Westgate Drive

“We are excited to have new venues join in the Best Bar None program and adding the improvements required to be recognized as accredited facilities. These safety practices for responsible service of alcohol are a great way for our local businesses to support community safety and ensure patrons consume responsibly, especially over the holiday season.”
Michel Lefebvre,
Program Manager, Enforcement Service, City of Grande Prairie

The general public were encouraged to have their say and vote for their favourite accredited business between November 4 and 14, as part of the Best Bar None People’s Choice Awards:

Best Business: Diamonds Gentlemen’s Club
Best Food: Crown and Anchor Pub
Best Staff: Diamonds Gentlemen’s Club
Best Community Involvement: Diamonds Gentlemen’s Club

Already operating in more than 180 accredited establishments in Grande Prairie, Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge and Banff, the BBN program aims to reduce alcohol-related harms by:

  • encouraging businesses to adopt best practices related to customer safety and responsible service of alcohol;
  • giving businesses the tools to be better prepared for any violent incidents; and
  • building positive relationships between industry, enforcement agencies, governments and community.
