AGLC helps Albertans cheer on Canada’s Olympic hockey teams

AGLC is pleased to support extended liquor hours as the Canadian men’s Olympic hockey team play for a bronze medal.

“Hockey is Canada’s game and many Albertans enjoy gathering in their favourite locations to cheer on our national Olympic hockey teams. AGLC is pleased to support extended liquor hours as the Canadian men’s Olympic hockey team play for a bronze medal.”

Dave Berry, Vice-President, Regulatory Services, AGLC

A blanket, province-wide extension for liquor service will be offered to Class A licensees for the bronze medal hockey game featuring Canada versus the Czech Republic. The men’s bronze medal game takes place February 24 at 5:10 a.m. Licensees can open early at 4:30 a.m., start liquor service at 5 a.m. and remain open for regular service hours.

This extension applies to service hours only and all other rules guiding liquor service, such as responsible liquor service, remain in effect. Licensees are not required to apply for this particular extension.

In Alberta, regular liquor service may be provided anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 a.m., followed by a maximum one hour period to consume served drinks.

Licensees looking to request extended liquor service hours for other Olympic and general events can contact the AGLC. All requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Licensees are expected to continue offering service in a socially responsible way to ensure the safety of their patrons. Albertans are reminded to use their DrinkSense by making smart, responsible choices when consuming alcohol, leading to a more enjoyable and safer experience for everyone.
