Liquor Bulletin
Effective April 1, 2026
This bulletin is to advise all liquor licensees of important liquor markup changes.
As part of Budget 2026, the Government of Alberta is removing the additional markup on high-value wine (“ad valorem markup”) that was introduced in April 2025 and replacing it with a 58-cent-per-litre increase to the standard flat markup rates on wine. This is equivalent to 44 cents on a 750 millilitre bottle above the previous standard markup rate. The adjustment will take effect on April 1, 2026, and will provide greater transparency for industry stakeholders and wine consumers.
On April 1, 2026, the standard markup rate for wine (less than or equal to 16% ABV) will be set at $4.69/L and the rate for wine (greater than 16% ABV) will be adjusted to $7.46/L. No other changes to liquor markup rates will occur.
