All Registered Gaming Worker applications must include a current criminal records check (dated within 3 months of receipt) provided by local city police or local RCMP detachment.
Online or third party criminal records checks will not be accepted with the exception of Edmonton Police Service (EPS) or Calgary Police Service (CPS).
Individuals that want to work in Alberta's gaming industry must be registered by AGLC.

How to become a Casino Advisor
There are three positions:
- Cash Cage Advisor
- Count Room Advisor
- Dual Advisor (combines both of the above positions)
Casino Advisor exam
Anyone who wants to become an advisor must send AGLC:
- a completed Registration Application for Casino Advisor Examination;
- a current criminal records check from local city police or local RCMP detachment (dated within three months of issue).
- Online or third party criminal records checks will not be accepted with the exception of Edmonton Police Service (EPS) or Calgary police Service (CPS).
$100 exam fee can be paid by debit or credit on exam day.
AGLC schedules exams four times a year.
Upcoming exams are scheduled for 9:00 am on:
- July 21, 2026
- October 20, 2026
- January 19, 2027
Advisor exams are administered at the following AGLC locations:

The content of the exam is taken from:
- The Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act
- The Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation
- The Casino Terms & Conditions and Operating Guidelines (CTCOG)
- Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 17 and 18
Next steps
After the applicant writes the exam:
- AGLC mails the results to the applicant.
- If the applicant passed the exam, AGLC will provide a six-month temporary training registration.
- The applicant is responsible to locate and apprentice with a registered Casino Advisor; details can be found in CTCOG 6.3.5.
- After training is complete and the Personal Disclosure is approved, AGLC will register the applicant as a Cash Cage Advisor, Count Room Advisor or a Dual Advisor.
