ProServe Out of Province Recognition Application

To work in Alberta in a position that requires ProServe certification, you must be ProServe-certified within 30 days of hire. Certificates issued by other provincial training programs will not be recognized by Alberta licensees or AGLC inspectors in lieu of ProServe.

In order for your out of province certificate to be recognized in Alberta, please follow the instructions below:

The SMART Programs office will review your certificate application for recognition within three business days. If approved, you will receive emailed instructions for printing/saving proof of your ProServe certification. ProServe certification is valid for 5 years from the date your out of province certification was issued. If you are still serving or selling liquor, or providing security in an Alberta licensed premises at the time your ProServe certification expires, you must recertify.

Terms and Conditions

ProServe is an important part of AGLC's and licensees' ongoing efforts to reduce underage drinking, over-consumption, impaired driving and the risk of violence in and around licensed premises. Through responsible liquor sales and service, industry workers play an important role in these efforts.

Your commitment to the responsible sale, service and consumption of liquor helps to create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for patrons and customers and reduce the risk of liability.

I understand and agree to the following:

  • I may be required to re-certify in ProServe Liquor Staff Training if I violate any of the following:
    • - Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act (GLCA), Section 75 – Supplying Liquor to a Minor
    • - Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act (GLCA) Section 75.1 AGLC Under 25 Liquor Policy – Duty to an Intoxicated Person, or
    • - AGLC Under 25 Liquor Policy – Failing to request proof of age from a person who appears to be under 25 years of age
  • If I am required to re-certify in ProServe, as described above, I will be required to:
    • - Re-purchase the ProServe program and pay an administration fee
    • - Complete ProServe (includes passing the exam with a minimum of 80%) within 30 days of the date of notification of the violation
  • If I do not re-certify within 30 days of the date of notification of the violation, my ProServe certification will be cancelled.
  • If I have more than two violations within a five-year period, I will not be able to be ProServe certified in Alberta.
  • It is my responsibility to ensure my email and mailing address on my AGLC Learning Management System (LMS) account information is correct and current, and I will regularly check my email and mail. (Notice of violation(s) as described above, will be sent to the email address on your account.)
  • It is my responsibility to maintain my ProServe certification if it is needed for the position(s) in which I am employed. I will provide my employer with proof of valid certification and advise them of changes to my certification status and/or expiry dates.
  • Policy and course content may change after my certification. I am responsible for reviewing the course content and AGLC's liquor legislation and policies periodically to keep my knowledge current.

This training is intended only to provide social responsibility training about liquor sales and service. It does not take the place of the training required of me by my employer.

The information provided is collected under the authority of the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act, Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Protection or Privacy Act (POPA). It will be used to administer AGLC's Learning Management System (LMS) training programs. Your personal information is protected by the POPA Act and can be reviewed upon request.
