Deal Us In - Industry Awareness Training

Deal Us In is a mandatory training program for all casino and racing entertainment centre registered gaming workers. The first phase of the program was recently introduced as an online training program (dealusin.aglc.ca), as part of the AGLC’s SMART Training Programs. This group of training programs is an important part of the government’s commitment to responsibility in Alberta’s gambling industry.

Deal Us In helps managers and staff understand the differences between responsible and problem gambling, the myths associated with gambling and how to provide information to players seeking help.

Deal Us In has two phases:

Deal Us In - Phase One is available through its original on-site facilitated format or online at no charge for casino and REC registered gaming workers. The convenient online program includes video clips, written information, exercises and an examination. A grade of 80 per cent is required in order to receive a certificate of program completion. For registered workers without Internet access, Deal Us In – Phase One and Phase Two (see below) are available at no cost in a facilitated format.

Phase Two is more intensive training for management and security staff selected to receive the training by casino or REC management. Phase Two covers intervention techniques and role-playing scenarios. The primary purpose of the Phase Two training is to teach designated staff how to respond appropriately to front-line staff referrals and when and how to conduct patron interventions. A sound knowledge of these two areas is critical to successful interactions between staff and players seeking help with problem gambling.

All registered casino and REC workers are required to obtain Deal Us In – Phase One program certification within six months of being hired. For more information about the Deal Us In Program, visit dealusin.aglc.ca.
